The Sliding Barrel sledge

The photo was taken on the 6th June 2000 on the side of my favourite mountain at 1450 meters elevation. The trees are a mix of snowgum, alpine ash, messmate and stringybark. This is the second season on the snow for the sledge. The heaviest pre-season snowfall for fifty years was much enjoyed.

The project covers some of the same ground as the trundler handcart with regard to obtaining and cleaning industrial polythene drums. Read the handcart project for details.

As with the handcart, the article is in two sections, covering use and making of the sledge.

Using the sledge - what the sledge will and will not do.

Making the sledge

The second section assumes you have read the first.
